Production history
Saiyaara was first planned as a spiritual sequel to Mohit Suri's Aashiqui 2, but after creative differences it was reworked as a standalone film at Yash Raj Films. It is loosely based on the 2004 South Korean film A Moment to Remember. Sankalp Sadanah wrote the screenplay, Rohan Shankar the dialogues, Vikas Sivaraman shot the film, and Rohit Makwana and Devendra Murdeshwar edited it. Debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda play a singer-songwriter couple; Suri said he wanted a female lead who had not had cosmetic treatments. Filming ran from September 2024 to March 2025 in Mumbai, Goa, Manali and Alibag. Forbes India reported a budget of about ₹45 crore.
Music
The seven-song album features music by Mithoon, Sachet–Parampara, Rishabh Kant, Vishal Mishra, Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, Mithoon, Rishabh Kant and Raj Shekhar. Singers include Arijit Singh, Jubin Nautiyal, Shreya Ghoshal and Shilpa Rao. John Stewart Eduri composed the background score, replacing Suri's regular collaborator Raju Singh. The album was released on 4 July 2025, two weeks before the film.
Certification and runtime
The CBFC granted a U/A 16+ certificate after about 10 seconds of intimate visuals were cut, objectionable words were replaced in four places and a helmet-safety disclaimer was added to two-wheeler scenes. The runtime is 156 minutes.
Box office
Saiyaara opened with ₹21.25 crore worldwide, the biggest start for a Hindi film with a debutant male lead. It took about ₹83 crore net in India and more than ₹119 crore worldwide over the opening weekend, driven by urban multiplexes. Its run closed at ₹579.23 crore worldwide, including ₹337.78 crore net in India and US$19.73 million overseas, making it one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2025. Deadline called the run unprecedented, and The Indian Express noted how rare such success was for a film starring newcomers.
Critical reception
Reviews were generally positive, especially for the lead performances and the soundtrack; Rotten Tomatoes listed 63% of 19 critics' reviews as positive (average 5.1/10). Bollywood Hungama (4/5) called it a stirring musical saga, crediting Suri's direction and the debutants. Rishabh Suri of the Hindustan Times (3.5/5) said that although the story breaks no new ground, it strikes the right emotional chords and is delivered with sincerity. Vineeta Kumar of India Today also gave it 3.5/5.
