Development
Villeneuve was already thinking about a trilogy in 2021. He began writing a story to complete Paul's arc in late 2023, drawing on Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, and Legendary commissioned the film in 2024. He co-wrote the screenplay with Brian K. Vaughan and produces with Tanya Lapointe, Legendary's Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, and Joseph M. Caracciolo Jr. Florence Pugh returns as Irulan, now Paul's wife, and Isaach de Bankolé plays Farok, a disillusioned former Fedaykin.
Production
Filming began on 8 July 2025 at Origo Film Studios in Budapest. Desert scenes were shot in Liwa Oasis in Abu Dhabi, and filming wrapped in November 2025.
