Avengers: Doomsday Release Date: 18 December 2026

Fourteen months after Thunderbolts*, as the multiverse collapses, the Avengers, Wakandans, New Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men from three universes come together to face Doctor Doom.

Release date and status

Disney has scheduled Avengers: Doomsday for a US theatrical release on 18 December 2026, with the UK release two days earlier on 16 December. An India date had not been separately announced as of 23 October 2026, so we list 18 December 2026 as the expected date for Indian cinemas.

How the date moved

The film was first dated for 2 May 2025, then pushed to 1 May 2026, partly because of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. In May 2025 Disney moved it again, to December 2026, to give the production more time.

Story

Set fourteen months after Thunderbolts*, the film brings together heroes from three universes as the multiverse collapses: the Avengers, Wakandans and New Avengers of Earth-616, the Fantastic Four of Earth-828 and the X-Men of Earth-10005. All of them face Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. in a new role after his years as Iron Man.

From The Kang Dynasty to Doomsday

Marvel announced the project in July 2022 as The Kang Dynasty, with Jonathan Majors as the villain. Director Destin Daniel Cretton left in November 2023 and Majors was dropped the following month. In July 2024 Marvel announced the Russo brothers' return, Downey's casting as Doom and the new title. Filming ran from April to September 2025 at Pinewood Studios in England, with location work in England and Bahrain.

Trailer and music

The first full trailer was shown at CinemaCon in April 2026 and released online in July. Alan Silvestri, who scored Infinity War and Endgame, was confirmed as composer in July 2024.

Formats

In the US the film will not play in IMAX for at least its first three weeks, because Dune: Part Three opens the same day and holds IMAX exclusivity. Disney expects IMAX screenings in some international markets, along with Dolby, ScreenX, D-Box and 4DX. It is unclear which formats India will get.

OTT release

As a Marvel Studios film, it would normally stream on Disney+ (JioHotstar in India) after its theatrical run, but no streaming date had been announced as of 23 October 2026.

The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, is scheduled for 17 December 2027.
