Jumanji: Open World Story

This time Jumanji breaks out of the game console. Spencer, Fridge, Bethany and Martha have to deal with the game in their own world, while their avatars Bravestone, Shelly, Mouse and Ruby roam around in demo mode.

Release date and status

Sony Pictures has scheduled Jumanji: Open World for 25 December 2026 in the US. As of 23 October 2026 no separate India date had been announced, so we list the US date as expected for India.

A long road back

Kasdan confirmed early work on a follow-up in March 2020, but the pandemic and his work on Red One (2024) delayed it. In October 2024 Sony confirmed the film was in active development, with Kasdan returning to write and direct alongside Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

Story

This time the game leaves its console. The friends from the last two films have to face Jumanji in the real world, while their avatars are stuck in demo mode.

Title, filming and music

The full title, Jumanji: Open World, was revealed at CinemaCon in April 2026. Filming began in Los Angeles in November 2025 and wrapped on 30 March 2026, with Ben Davis as cinematographer. Henry Jackman returns to score after Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and The Next Level (2019), and Mark Helfrich edits. Sony first dated the film for 11 December 2026 but moved it to 25 December to avoid the second weekend of Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three.

OTT release
