After the world forgets Peter Parker in the wake of No Way Home, he works alone, protecting New York from street-level crime as Spider-Man. It is the fourth MCU Spider-Man film.

Release strategy

The film premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on 27 July 2026. The international rollout began on 29 July, with most markets opening over the following two days, and it opened in 4,487 US theatres on 31 July. Because The Odyssey held exclusive IMAX screens in many markets, Brand New Day played IMAX only in select territories at first and then globally from 6 August. It was also released in ScreenX, RealD 3D, D-Box, Dolby Cinema and 4DX. In India, Sony Pictures released it along with dubbed Indian-language versions.

For streaming, Sony's 2021 deals give Netflix the first "pay 1" window for its 2022–2026 films, followed by Disney's "pay 2" window. A January 2026 agreement extends Netflix's pay 1 rights globally as territory rights become available, with the deal fully in effect by early 2029.

OTT release

A streaming date for India had not been announced as of 25 September 2026.

Production history

Brand New Day is the fourth MCU Spider-Man film after No Way Home (2021) and the 38th MCU film, produced by Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios and Pascal Pictures. The title was announced at Sony's CinemaCon panel in March 2025. In February 2025, the US release was pushed back one week to 31 July 2026 to move away from Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Sadie Sink was cast in March 2025 without an audition, having worked with Destin Daniel Cretton on The Glass Castle (2017), and her role was kept secret until release.

Principal photography began in Glasgow on 3 August 2025 under the working title Blue Oasis, with Cretton's regular cinematographer Brett Pawlak. It was shot in 2.39:1 and in 1.90:1 for IMAX on the Arri Alexa 265. Holland pushed for pre-planned shooting days and practical stunts wherever possible, and filming wrapped in December 2025. Michael Giacchino returned as composer, deliberately removing notes from his Spider-Man theme to reflect what Peter Parker has lost. Sony Classical released the soundtrack on 31 July 2026.

Trailer and music

Teasers came out on 1–2 August 2025. The first trailer followed on 18 March 2026, which Sony said drew a record 718.6 million views in 24 hours (per WaveMetrix), then a second trailer on 17 June and a final one on 21 July 2026.

The runtime is 145 minutes.

Box office

As of 22 September 2026, Wikipedia reports $946 million in the US and Canada and $1.534 billion elsewhere, for a worldwide total of about $2.48 billion. That makes it the third highest-grossing film of all time, the highest-grossing film ever in the US and Canada, the top film of 2026 and Sony's biggest release. Its $932 million worldwide opening weekend is second only to Avengers: Endgame (2019). It crossed $1 billion in six days (on 3 August) and $2 billion on 16 August, the first Spider-Man film to reach that mark.

Critical reception

Reviews were largely positive, praising Tom Holland's performance, the action and a more mature, character-driven story. Rotten Tomatoes reported 90% positive reviews from 435 critics (average 7.6/10), and Metacritic gave it 66 out of 100 from 56 critics. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave it an "A".

What's next

Producer Amy Pascal said in 2021 that Brand New Day was planned as the first film in a new Holland trilogy. In 2026, Holland said he would keep playing the character "for as long as they'll have me". Kevin Feige said Miles Morales would come to live action after the animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (2027).
