Production history
Legendary Entertainment acquired the live-action film and TV rights to Capcom's Street Fighter games in April 2023, with Capcom co-producing. This is the third live-action film after Universal's Street Fighter (1994) and Fox's Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009). Danny and Michael Philippou were first attached to direct but left in June 2024 to make Bring Her Back, and Kitao Sakurai was hired in February 2025. The story has Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruiting Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) for a tournament against M. Bison (David Dastmalchian).
Most of the cast was announced between June and September 2025: Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, 50 Cent as Balrog, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda and Indian actor Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim. Liang trained daily in taekwondo, Muay Thai and wushu for the role. Principal photography ran in Australia from 18 August to 12 November 2025 under the working title Punch, with cinematographer Ken Seng.
