The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth Story

In 1977 Los Angeles, eight years after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, former stuntman Cliff Booth now works as a Hollywood studio fixer.

Release date and status

The film opens exclusively in IMAX on 25 November 2026 for a two-week run, the first time Netflix has released a film this way. It starts streaming on Netflix on 23 December 2026. Indian IMAX screenings had not been confirmed as of 23 October 2026, so most viewers in India are likely to see it on Netflix.

How it came together

Netflix acquired Tarantino's script in April 2025. Pitt brought in Fincher, his director on Seven, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Casting began in May 2025, and filming took place in Los Angeles from July 2025 to January 2026. Leonardo DiCaprio said he had early talks about a cameo as Rick Dalton but would not appear. The reported budget is $200 million.

Story

The story is set in 1977, eight years after the first film. Cliff Booth is now a studio fixer in Los Angeles. Timothy Olyphant returns as western actor James Stacy.

Title, teaser and festival plans

The first teaser aired during Super Bowl LX on 8 February 2026. It showed Booth in the 1970s, including a demolition-derby race shot at Ventura Raceway, set to Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Peter Gunn". Netflix announced the full title in August 2026. In July 2026 Venice festival director Alberto Barbera said the film would not premiere there, because Fincher had paused work for personal reasons and completion was expected in October 2026. Sony chairman Tom Rothman said Tarantino first planned to direct and release it theatrically like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but the project moved to Netflix when Fincher took over.

Novel

Tarantino's novel The Adventures of Cliff Booth is due from HarperCollins on 8 December 2026.

Not The Movie Critic

Tarantino's shelved script The Movie Critic was once reported to involve Cliff Booth. In August 2025 Tarantino said that film had no crossover characters, so this film is a separate project.
