V. Shantaram Release Date: Pushed Beyond 2026 (TBA)

The film follows Shantaram Rajaram Vankudre, known as V. Shantaram, from the silent era through the coming of sound and colour, and his rise as one of the most important figures of early Indian cinema.

Release date status

In March 2026, Kiran Shantaram, the filmmaker's son, said the team hoped to release the film on 18 November 2026, which marks Shantaram's 125th birth anniversary year. Shooting was planned for April 2026 but did not begin. In August 2026 the director told Bollywood Hungama that the film is still on and that the shoot has moved to April 2027, with a few more well-known actors set to join. No new release date has been announced, so we list the date as to be announced.

Why it matters
